Austria’s largest festival of customs turns all of Villach into a stage: During the Villacher Kirchtag (Church Fair), the dancing, singing and fun lasts for a whole week. Every first Saturday in August at 5 pm, the large national costume procession with around 4,000 traditional costumes from Carinthia and all over Europe attracts more than 50,000 visitors to the old town by the river Drau. This unequalled mix of living traditions, culinary delicacies and prime entertainment in combination with the locals’ sunny southern temperament ensures enjoyment in both the traditions and the spirit of the times.
